    1969 Topo Map

    Arcata Readimix Cross Sections

Summary Analysis:

The 1969 Topo map shows a 10' (foot) contour elevation across the bed of the river near the Arcata Readimix site. There are two 1998 cross sections taken by Arcata Readimix, one upriver and one down river of the 1969 Topo map 10' contour mark. The cross sections show the elevation of the river at this area to be at or about 10'. The river in this area has not significantly degraded, consistent with the evidence at the REA culverts and the other lower Mad River locations. Clearly no significant bed degradation has occurred at this site.

The 1969 Topo map shows a point identified at 16' (foot) elevation. This point is near a 1998 cross section. The current extraction elevation being proposed, 16.5' is above the 1969 spot elevation. This information instead also implies no significant bed lowering at the Highway 299 bridge.
